1.6 Gig HD.
8x CD-ROM (made by some no-name)
Some sound card also made by a no-name which makes funny noises 25% of the time

My computer was new in December 1996

Pentium P100 (I opened the case. I know these things.)
Some kind of video card that allows only 256 colors at 1024x768 (So I stay at 800x600 and true colors.
4x CDrom
1.2G HDD (Running compression software to hold roughly 2 gigs)
3.5" floppy
Sound Blaster (clone)
33.6k modem (Upgraded from original 14.4)
32megs RAM (Upgraded from 16)

Frank, a mac with those specs must literally fly *L*.

I too am feeling the dinosaur pinch, especially when trying to use max, and photoshop.

My work one:

HP Brio (*sob*) PII 350 MHz
8 Gb HD
64 Mb RAM
Crummy CD-ROM out of my old Compaq DeskPro I had before
17" monitor
Similar soundcard I have at home - because it's a spare I brought from home (only one in the company with a soundcard!)
Typhoon speakers nicked off a Brio in the training room

Our computers here at uni had been running on Windows 3.11 for the last few years until today when they've finally upgraded the computer system and guess what they've upgraded to, yes people, it's Windows NT. Now we needed this upgrade, but what I want to know is why they couldn't have waited for another few months because I'm sure that there will be something new and even better coming out in the new milennium.

This is a good university for everything else, but as far as the IT services go, they're all living in the past with no imagination or initiative at all. Grrrr

OK, that's my rant for the day.

WinNT, eh? You were probably better off with Windows 3.1.... Nothing likes to work with WinNT

Well, for what it's worth, I'm battering this out on one of my department's Panrix bangers. I think it has a 200MHz Pentium, but all external stickers and info are missing.

It does have a 15" monitor, and runs Win95.

It also has a layer of grey grime seared onto all the keys. One's fingertips get sticky....ewwwwww yuk.
