I think that it would be a good idea to bring back the website forum back, as it would prevent unwanted spam elsewhere, and give a place for people to display their websites safely.
Anyone else second the notion?

Actually, I was working on something for the Behaviour Alliance that would make such a forum redundant. Of course, Sol is his usual indecisive self...

I'll second the motion. It seems unfair to come down on people for posting about their websites in other forums, when there is no forum for them to properly post such notices and plugs.
Frank has an extremely good idea. It works nice, runs well; in short, everything you could want.
My reasoning lays along the lines of keeping a slight degree of seperation between SolarFlare and the Alliance. I'm willing to admit to being overly paranoid in this circumstance, but based on our group's history, I would say a little caution is warrented, no?
But the BA isn't just my deal. Frank, why don't you set up your example for everyone, and we'll see what people think?

I wouldn't mind a forum promoting web sites. However, I find Tachy's signature distasteful. He has a giant ad for his site. Please Tachy, this is like spamming. Can the site administrator do something about this eyesore?

We don't need any more Forums! *notices everyone looking at him*
What?
There are many good reasons for this:
a) It will get minimum use, less than Incoming Hail, or Gadgets (which I think should be amalgamated with Starships).
b) Who goes there anyway? If they do, what do they say? Gosh, nice site? No, you're completely wrong there? I never noticed many extended arguments over people's sites when we had a Websites Forum.
c) Many people advertise their sites in a tasteful, tactful way - usually in a thread in which the same topic is being covered. THAT's when I take notice, when I think there's going to be something there that interests me. That's how I've come to spend a lot of time recently looking at ID's and Bernd's sites.
d) Who's gonna Moderate it? The position of Moderator is one that many people aspire to, and it's be a real let down to be given such a lame duck posting. We could give an existing Mod this second job, but then that would only promote jealousy and a swollen ego - when we pruned the Forums after quitting the SFCR, a certain Mod said "I'm not losing *deleted* unless I get another one in return." We don't need that kind of thing anymore.
As for Tachy's signature, it is over the top. I think we'd all know of the existence of Sci-Fi Arts by now!

Well, then, on Sol's suggestion, I'll set up an example of what I was thinking of. Unfortunately, it will take some work, so I probably will need this weekend to do it.
Basically, it would be a page where people could submit links to their Web sites (along with a short description, their name/email address, etc.). This way, it would operate like the Web Sites forum did, but with everything in one place instead of spread throughout several different threads.

I second Lee's opinion. It would be rarely visited, and just take up space on the server. If you want to advertise your website, put a link in your signature (JUST the link, not a disgusting disply like Tachy's), and we might take notice to that. FrankG's idea also has aLOT of merit.
