Normally, I enjoy the humour from our trans-atlantic neigbours, as they have that old lady who's on our money on TV alot, but this one slipped past my head.

Name something that is furry - A TRUCK!!

HA HA HA HA!!! SOMEBODY SET UP US THE FUNNY!!!!"

Would any Briton care to elaborate?

Well, given the name of the show, and the type of questions, I'd say it's probably somehow related to the US show Family Feud. And, if you don't know what that is, I can't help you, 'cause I'm not going to explain the entire concept of the show. :-)

The title says it all.

It's a family that fights. But family fights doesn't sound that good, so family feud.

"The candidate who slimed John McCain in the primaries and smeared Al Gore in the general election is now the president who pledges to elevate the nation's tone and bring civility to our discorse. Kind of like Michael Corleone brought peace to the mob by killing the heads of the other four families."

I think it's the same.

100 ordinary people in the street are asked a question, such as "name something associated with computers"

During the actual show, members of two families are asked the same questions, and they have to guess the six most popular answers. For instance, the ppublic might have answered the above question with "games" "a keyboard" or "porn".

The humour comes from the fact that the people in the examples above have not given "typical" answers. Some are very cultural, for instance, "pigs" is a derogatory term for the Police, AKA the Old Bill.
