It's 1834 EST Wednesday evening as I sit here at a terminal in the Schlow Library in beautiful (& mega-fucking-cold) downtown State College, PA. To put it bluntly, "Um...I don't think this is going to work out."
There's an odd energy here, completely & diametrically opposite from when I was here last. Things are stranger; maybe it's the collective output of 50,000 students grinding down for exams next week & Spring Break the week after that...or maybe it's just me. I'm not sure.
I met with the manager of the store I want to transfer to today. Although I impressed him ("2nd-highest store in the nation for volume, top DM in the country, blahblahblah"), I doubt there'll be anything around for me. Bugger. The mall has the air of a fat bloated commercial whale carcass blindly going along & decomposing in the nonday sun. For the only shopping center in a 100-mile radius, it seems really far gone.
Gotten a paper, looked at apartment ads, but have yet to call; tomorrow probably. I can't really say if this will work or not; I know I have the money to get here, but I'm not sure if I'll have the "necessary fiduciary levels as recommended by the USDA" to stay put here. MOST distressing. To put it mildly, it's been a major strike to confidence.
We'll see what happens....

AHAAAH!!! There you are, psy! I haven't recouperated from that 'may'-backstab, but you can't hide from me. I'll chase you around the moons of Nibia before I give you up!
On another note: Shik, what's your preferred function in a mall? Management? Logistics? I've worked in the latter...

It's no good, Shikkychops. I've read your post through several times now, and I still have no idea what you're on about. 8)

There's some odd energy at the university. (I think it's just the collective stupidity of frat boys, but..)And the Blockbuster at that mall doesn't have Zero Wing.

Stubborn good not always. ("These aren't the droids you're looking for. All you base...")
OK, let's recap the second cycle. Last August, I met a girl at an anime convention. I like her. A lot. I ended up falling for her. I shouldn't have, but nonetheless. She attends Penn State. In order to be near her & maybe eventually win her over, I'm attempting in true scroglike fashion to move my work on what passes for a life to State College. Granted, she's headed home to Scranton at the end of the year (unless I can convince her to stay..?) & then to Osaka for a year abroad. (That's "a year overseas," not "a year as a woman," which she's been for 20 years already) It's all in the timing.
That being said, I'm finding...well, not a lot I can afford. One-bedrooms are more expensive than 2-bedrooms here, and the few 2-bedrooms I can afford (even taking into account getting a roommate) are really looking at leasing in August because that's SOP; since I'm not a student, though, some companies have said July. Joy. Yes, there are the occasional rooms for rent in a house, but I've already done that. I want a place where I can have people. So.
Went out today to see about a 2-bedroom place; the woman wasn't even at the realty office. Hmm...stand here in the Nunavut wind, or go back to warmth & civilization? Yeah.
Tomorrow, though...that's the one I have my hopes pinned on. Answered an ad for a roommate in the paper;voice on the machine was a girl. Hmm. Left the number of the place I was at & waited.
She actually called. That's a good sign. She said that while she was hoping for a female roommate, so far all she'd gotten was men. Still, we seemed to get along (as well as one CAN in 10 minutes on the phone) & I may have a shot in by sheer dint of lack of car (parking is a problem, apparently), my "advanced age," & the fact that I've already spent the last 2 years living with 3 to 5 other women at any given time. We'll see what happens come 1630 Saturday.
Nimrod: my chosen preference in a mall is "Supreme High Commander Of The Asskicking forces"....but I settle for retail drone.

Nimmy: What "may"-backstab? Is this a metaphorical backstab - I may do it? Or is this a backstab that takes place during that oh so merry month?
