PowerDVD and WinDVD are both good. People will probably swear by whatever one they are using. When I've looked at internet reviews, WinDVD does seem to produce a slightly better picture, but not by much. The main difference in picture quality is whether you have an MPEG card, and, in you don't, how fast your computer is.

Actually, I've got WinDVD, and I'm not liking it so much. It doesn't have certain features I'd like. However, I don't know what PowerDVD has, so it might just be that I'm expecting too much.

What version are you using? I get the feeling that there's a large difference between the new and old versions of software DVD players.
What versions is it missing? I've got PowerDVD 2.5, and there doesn't seem to be much missing. Then again, maybe I expect too little.

I've got WinDVD 2.2. I'd like if it could step frame-by-frame in reverse and take screencaps of zoomed-in stuff. Also, you zoom in by drawing a rectangle around the part you want to zoom in on. Unfortunately, it then takes that area and fits it into the current window. Therefore, if you don't have the same aspect ratio, it gets all distorted.

Yes, it would appear to, in fact, be WinDVD 2000.

I bought a whole DVD-deck instead. Region free, and the guy threw in "Gladiator" and "Jeanne 'dArc". The design looks like something from a Willy Gibson novel. Bought Princess Mononoke too. Mmm...
Well, I'll prolly get a DVD to my computer as well, they're making more and more games in DVD. But I have no ambitions to watch movies on my computer screen, albeit 20".
