...sound so great on my Mac, but so utterly crappy on my PC? My Mac can almost fool me into thinking that I'm listening to an actual recording, but my PC can't play MIDI worth a flip. Any way to make my PC sound better?

Dunno, but it appears that Windows has a horrible job with MIDI files and the like. Tried to download some related to a game, but they sound so BAD. You need some sort of player like a WGplayer or maybe WinAMP will do the trick.

Actually, MIDI files sound different on a PC depending on the muscle of the sound card. The old SB16 had bad MIDI, but AWE 32 and almost all cards after that had better MIDI. It all comes down to the quality of the sounds you've assigned to certain instruments.

Or you could use *.mod files which are essentially MIDI files with imbedded sound samples so they sound the same anywhere....Also called: .669 *.AMS *.AMF *.DBM *.DMF *.DSM *.FAR *.IT *.MED *.MDL *.MTM *.NST *.OKT *.PSM *.PTM *.S3M *.STM *.ULT *.XM
...yeah, they had a bit of trouble deciding on an extension.....oh the memories.....
