Well, given one of the significant ships of Star Trek - the Excelsior-class USS Hood, Will Riker's posting previous to the Enterprise - is named for her, I thought people might be interested in a current project being run by UK's Channel 4 TV station to locate the wreck of HMS Hood:

i think that someone should try to raise a few of the crashed aircraft from WW2 they'd make great museum pieces.

They need lots of luck to find the HMS Hood. She was vaporized by a single shell from the German battleship Bismarck.

I just read the site. God was with them. The ship was found, with her bow missing. HMS Hood may not have been vaporized; however, she was shawed. (FYI-there was a famous photo from the attack on Pearl Harbor. Toward the end of the air raid, as USS Nevada was hauling ass out of Pearl, a Japanese bomb missed the battleship and hit the destroyer Shaw. The Shaw's bow exploded, leaving only her aft sections intact.)

These are images of the USS Shaw. [Changed to links by management, for reason: They were huge!]

USS Shaw, late 1930's

USS Shaw, exploding on Dec. 7, 1941

USS Shaw, Dec. 8, 1941

USS Shaw, in 1945 and after final modifications

[Please refrain from posting eleventy billion huge images in one thread.]

I watched some of the show last night. they called the last surviving crew member to tell him the ship had been found.
