How can I get this thing working with a DOS game running in Windows? 'Cause it seems like I should be able to. The control panel has the ability to select a particular .exe and map the buttons to certain keyboard keys, so that it interprets my pressing "y" as pressing "alt", or what have you, while I'm playing Zelda. But why only in Win-native games? It doesn't work for DOS-native running in a window. Any help?

Disregard. I found one last thing I could try, and it worked. And I discovered that you DON'T play Dark Forces with a control pad.

Duh. Have you not played frist person shooters before? Playing them with a gamepad is like trying to play Command & Conquer with a, er, gamepad.

Omega, why not play "Jedi Knight - Dark Forces II"??? Shit, the sequel to Dark Forces is four years old! They're even making the third game now, should be out in a few months.

I've played FPS games before. But not with a gamepad.
There's just something about DF. Maybe because it was the first CD-ROM game I ever played. I don't know, I just like it better, somehow. Though I do also play Jedi Knight. I'm actually on a quest to crack the DF logics, at the mo. In six years, no one's done that.

Logics. The way the various entities in the game act. "D_TROOP3" is one, as is "BOBA_FETT". If I could figure these things out, we could, for example, make Storm Troopers who carry repeater rifles, or replace an entire logic with a custom one for Darth Vader. It's the one remaining great mystery of the Dark Forces engine. The DF community has taken level editing itself as far as it can go, and something more is needed to further modify the game.
Good enough answer for ya?

A pram is the British term for whatever the Americans call that thing you push babies around in (not strollers, which I think are for toddlers, or at least kids who can sit upright. Prams are for babies who lie down all the time.)
