This is quite interesting. I didn't know that Antarctica had monetary notes.

It's quite pretty actually. So...uhh.....Can these be used in any nation that has a base at Antarctica, or can it only be used IN Antarctica?

Erm... Is it even legal tender at all? I mean, they don't exactly have an economy in Antarctica...

I know. That's why I'm scratching my head about this.

There's also a $2 note.

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1297340152

And a $20 note.

I remeber seeing a $5 note somewhere as well, but I can't remember where.

It's a FAKE!

That's my thoughts, that is.

I'm slightly annoyed at Hobbes' rather rude decision to be much more attractive than me though. That's just rude. - PsyLiam, Oct 27, 2005.

Antarctica even has a flag. I saw it once on a "nations of the world" flag chart. It's a bowl with two hands holding it up, with a browinsh-orange background.

I'll get a link soon....

OK, the site that had it is down, and all I can find are unofficial blue flags with a white Antarctica in them.

Ah. Here's a picture of an Antarctican $5 note.

http://www.portalino.it/images/bb/_antarctica2.htm

As for this being the clever work of a photoshop guy, I doubt it. Look what I found.

http://www.bankofantarctica.com/

It seems to be some kind of commemorative thing. These notes are exchangable for U.S. dollars up until the validity date expressed on each note lapses. Afterwards they'll probably become collectors items and you could probably sell them for much more than their face value. hehe

Apparently, the goal here is to raise funds for Antarctican research. Some of the things scientists are looking in to in Antarctica are global warming, ozone depletion and other enviromental changes Omega's right-wing, oil guzzling role models deny all exsistance of.

If they're intended to be collectable, then their value won't increase.

Liberia is on the West Coast of Africa, just as you near the bottom of the big western bulge. It was founded by free blacks from the United States prior to the American Civil War.

Two of their major sources of income are their special commemorative editions of coins and stamps, and the fact that they have one of the world's few duty-free ports, so that many shipping companies use Liberian registry to increase their profits.

This has been a First of Two Educational Announcement. We return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

And their capital is Monrovia, named for US president James Monroe.
