Haven't been there in almost ten years ... well, it's vacation time, so I'm on my way (this is sad, going on vacation to the city I grew up in ... oh well).

The lions, and tigers, and giraffs, and elephants, and monkeys (maybe I'll see Mim ...) and other assorted animals and beasts and stuff.

I'm excited. Maybe I'll buy a stuffed tiger.

Or not. [Big Grin]

Too bad the National Aquarium charges admission ... I go there fairly often. Then again, it is in Baltimore.

The DC Aquarium sucks the big one. It's not even a proper aquarium.

If you're ever in the Maryland area, I recommend both. You could do them both in a day if you don't mind driving to DC, then from DC to Baltimore (you can do it - the drive - in about 40 minutes or so, easy).

Be back ... later!!!!

Well, ze Zoo was fun. Saw the animals -- Mexican wolves, pandas, elephants, tigers, lions, sloth bears, three naked babies and so on and so forth.

Went out with Em & Lisa & Danny (who I'm staying with) to play pool with Lisa's coworker Ben, who is working on his PhD from Oxford. He's British -- from North Castle, I think (somewhere in northern England). Pretty cool guy -- we were talking about how dumb Americans were re: philosopher's/sorcerer's stone, and he told me that the movie "The Madness of King George" also got a title change -- originally, it was "The Madness of King George III" ... to which I lowered my beer and gasped "there were THREE?!"

I was joking, but the look on his face was priceless. [Big Grin]

Ahhhh, another fun night out on the capitol ...

I hate to say this, but I think that that title change actually makes sense. The Madness of King George III sounds like a documentary. And I'm sure the Brits already know which of their Kings George was the one that went loopy.

Well, it was released in the UK with the "III" ... that was cut out for the American release.

I want to move to this area. There is NO rush hour traffic ... five thirty pm, and barely a car on the road. Niiice!

Exactly my point. If even the Americans don't need to be told which King George it was, what made them think the Brits needed to?

Actually, it's because Americans are too dumb to know there were three King Georges.

I think it'd be like if someone made a movie about George Bush. It could be titled "The Pretzel Choking of George Bush", *but*, as with "King George", that leaves out part of his name (and title) ... so, to be accurate, it would have to be "... President George W. Bush." In the same way, the American title of the "Madness of King George" leaves off the end of his name ... "III" ...

Kind o' disrespectful. Chopping off his name like that.

Yes, but it was King George III who went insane.

In other words, the point was that Americans would be rather stupified to learn that there was more then one King George.

No we wouldn't. I knew there were. I also know that George III was known for talking to trees, and was King when the Colonies rebelled. And "Schoolhouse Rock" did a lovely caricature of him.

Actually, I believe the "III" was removed for the American release after extensive audience testing resulted in lots of Yanks saying "But I haven't seen the first two!"

Yes, you're despicable, and... and picable... and... and you're definitely, definitely despicable. How a person can get so despicable in one lifetime is beyond me. It isn't as though I haven't met a lot of people. Goodness knows it isn't that. It isn't just that... it isn't... it's... it's despicable.

As if that many Americans went to see it in the first place.

Not because they're dumb, but it looked boring as hell.

In other news, Home Alone is one of the twenty top grossing movies of all time.

Well. That IS because Americans are dumb.
