I don't know about you, but this is one of the most disgusting ideas I've ever heard about. Shows like "Temptation Island" were bad for the sheer amorality of the concept, and blatant exploitation for TV audiences.

But the concept of pitting family members against each other for a national entertainment show is worse. This isn't just some competition that will engage the contestants for a couple of months, someone will be a winner, and then everyone will move on with their lives. This kind of thing will basically destroy the family that "plays" the game.

And the network executives think "it will be great to watch Uncle Gus try to screw Aunt Tina out of the money."

Ugh.

More accurately, network executives are willing to bet their jobs and scads of cash that millions of everyday people will think "it will be great to watch Uncle Gus try to screw Aunt Tina out of the money."

Some people will watch to see if Uncle Gus merely tries to screw Aunt Tina, period.

Probably me.

Don't watch them, don't read about them, except here to see what the general opinion is....

Me too. I've never, ever watched a single minute of a "reality" show -- not even the original "Survivor." I've avoided that crap like the plague.

And I suppose it's not surprising that the networks would come up with a concept like this -- it just pisses me off that people think this is entertainment.

Well, the networks do market to the lowest common denominator. Amazing how low that is.

Finally!

I take it this forum would not be sympathetic to my on-again/off-again fascination with The Real World?

You mean, the one on MTV? Or the one outside your door?

I was about to say that there aren't any hot coeds outside my door, but that would be a lie. So I'll just go ahead and say the MTV version.

One of the guys I work with (coincidentally someone that I'm WAY crushing on, and a manager of mine, to boot!) thinks that he can cash in on the Reality TV craze by creating a show entitled "Liz: Live and Unscripted"- The premise is simple, and reactions from work seem to show that many people would enjoy this- Me, some good booze, and a video camera.

He's under the impression that with the sober version of me being as crazy as it is, the drunk version of me would just tear the house down! Personally, I don't think the world is READY for Liz under the influence of ANYTHING [Wink] , but if shooting goes into effect, I'll let y'all know [Razz]

If this whole sojourn at Flare has been something of a Chicago trial of the idea, Liz, I can't see how any network would turn it down.

As long as you don't lose your head, they may give you the prize....

The graphic violence will get those ratings way way up though....
