Is anyone here a fan of "Sports Night", the 1/2 hour comedy produced and (mostly) written by Aaron Sorkin for ABC? Ran for two seasons before it was cancelled.

I ask because I gave into temptation and picked up the DVD box set when I found it in the clearance bin at Target for half price (stupid stockers, happy Snay). I'd seen re-runs on Comedy Central, but man, this show is damn good!

It's a half-hour comedy, isn't filmed live, has a laugh track, and is one of the best TV shows I've ever seen. It's about the crew of a third-place cable network's sports show.

I'm working through the second season of the show (which lacks a laugh track) right now, and I totally agree with you. It's one of the best half-hour shows ever. A shame ABC didn't know what to do with it.

What I'm liking best is how the episodes run into each other - if it weren't for the opening and ending credits, the show is practically seamless between segments. It just keeps going, and the continuity between epsiodes is fantastic. In fact, I think I'm enjoyiong this show MORE simply because I can get more than half-hour doses every week.

Hey Mark, I'll confess ... at the first season finale, I cried when Isaac showed up "Hey lady, you going to get my show on the air ANYTIME soon?"

I did some searching on the net ... NBC and HBO both tried to pick the show up, but Sorkin only wanted HBO to do it, and ABC didn't want anybody to do it. ::grumble::

I knew about Isaac because I stupidly decided to read the back of the DVD case - something I've stopped doing for subsequent episodes. But yeah, Isaac's reapearance was at a perfect emotional point in the show to really bring the finale over the top. It's really cool, given how they quite deftly wrote the actor's real-life stroke into the show!

I also really enjoyed this show. I work on a lot of college plays and the same type of antics that happen during them were written into the show. Art imitates life. I was really annoyed that they took it off after only two seasons. Stupid companys wouldn't know a good show if it bit them.

Initially the title totally put me off. Then on a flight from Denver, they had an episode as an in-flight movie (weird, I know) I was bored and my gf at the time was in one of her moods, so I watched it. I was laughing at so much of it. I really liked the dialogue and the pacing. The characters were interesting and there was very little about sports. So when Comedy Central started airing them, I tuned it. I loved it. When the end of the third season came, and the show so brilliantly reflected what was happening as far as the show being cancelled, I was very excited. But alas, if only life were like the movies.

Erm, uh, I, uh, ... that is to say that the ratio of good episodes per season was so high that it seemed like there must have ben a third. Nah? Ok, yeah I screwed up.
