I am almost done with Freespace 1 and 2 and I need something else to move on to in the space flight type of game.
Anybody have any pointers?

Alas, it's a dying genre. X-Wing Alliance, Wing Commander Prophecy, Indepence War II, Freelancer, Tachyon: the Fringe, X: Beyond the Frontier (which has very promising sequel due out next month*), Allegiance, Bridge Commander (not a sim in the traditional sense, but worth a look), Starlancer, and uh, that's it. Many of these are over three years old, too.

Of course, if you want to go older, there's Tie Fighter, which for all its crappy specs by our standards still has incredible gameplay. There's also an expansion pack for "Freespace", "Silent Threat". OR you could go freeware, download Vega Strike and play with it. Or you could get fan-made campaigns for both Freespaces. There are quite a few.

If you're going to go all the way back to TIE Fighter, make sure you get the "Collector's Edition." Unlike with more modern games, back then....the Collector's edition was actually quite different, IIRC they actually redid the TIE Fighter game with the engine from Tie Fighter Vs. XWing which will make the retro gaming slightly less painful.

^^ You're thinking of the X-Wing Collectors Series, which included graphically revamped editions of X-Wing Collectors and TIE Fighter Collectors... not be confused w/ X-Wing, X-Wing Collectors, TIE Fighter, TIE Fighter Collectors, or X-Wing vs TIE Fighter. 8)

Oh COME ON!!! You DO NOT EVER move on with another space sim after you played Freespace 2.
After playing Freespace 1 and 2, I have virtually no interest in any other space simulator.
Some shameless plugs I'll put in:
First up is a campaign for the Freespace 2 game, Blackwater Operations. It is perhaps the largest user-created campaign in all and will come with complete voicepacks: http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/blackwater/ The Demo is already done. Try it out. It's very interesting. I hope the full version is done soon.

The TIE Fighter Collector's CD ROM did actually have an enhanced game engine. It was in SVGA, instead of the VGA of the original. Imagine that!
It also had the mission pack. And possibly another. It did have more missions than, er, the Bible.

I loved TIE Fighter, First SW game i've ever played. I also like starlancer, it's better than most people give it credit for.

I found a game, though it is not like freespace. "Homeworld" Anybody try it? I just bought Cataclysm for 10$ and it is cool enough to make me want to get Homeworld 2 when it comes out in about a month.

It's a very tricky game, that mission in the garbage field is a certifiable nightmare and those last few missions take forever!
Thank goodness that they fixed it in Cataclysm so you could speed up the game time, so you're not waiting around for 45mins waiting for your collectors to finish up.
I've seen the trailer for Homeworld 2 and it looks really good, I love the new look of the capital ships!

I've not played Cataclysm, but I adored the vanilla Homeworld version. So beautiful, so powerful. My favorite was when the engine said you couldn't beuild any more ships, but didn't say anythign about capturing more, so you'd have like 50 enemy ion frigates in your fleet. That was fun. Love that game. Very much looking forward to the sequel.

Ditto!
Say, where can I get a copy of Freespace 1 and 2 and any expansion packs (other than Ebay and Amazon)?

Ebay and Amazon.
Trust me, the game was great, the promotion was horrible. Therefore the only way you can find the game is in consignment stores and the whatnot.
