I just dug up the maps in the Harry Turtledove books, and included in the alternative-history Confederacy were the states of Chihuahua and Sonora, as well as Cuba.

I beieve Turtledove (of whom I'm not a huge fan) refers to a Second Mexican War between Mexico and the CSA.
