quote: >> Man on the fucking moon << Did you read that Onion story a few years back? The one with the "Holy Shit - Man Walks on Fucking Moon" headline? Fraser has improved the work with visuals.

Heh... that's especially humorous after I was watching those History Channel specials on Sunday night, about the critical role that Mission Control played in the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo missions...

"In 1969, Neil Armstrong made history by becoming the first man to walk on the moon, uttering the immortal phrase, 'One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.'"
"One small step for a man". It doesn't make sense, otherwise.
That said, I think the best-delivered line in that thing is near the end when the Houston guy says "Uh... Holy shit, Tranquility.".

He meant to say "a" but didn't. Yes, by leaving it out it doesn't make sense, but, so what? You're only just learning this now?

Tim is surely going to start discussions on Watergate any day now.
I always thought that Armstrong knew he had made a mistake. There's a massive pause after the second "one...", where he's probably thinking, "fuck, the most important speech I'll ever make, one of the most important speeches in history, and I've gone and bloody screwed it right royally. That's a bit of a blow, but I'll carry on anyway, all proper-like".
-------------------- Yes, you're despicable, and... and picable... and... and you're definitely, definitely despicable. How a person can get so despicable in one lifetime is beyond me. It isn't as though I haven't met a lot of people. Goodness knows it isn't that. It isn't just that... it isn't... it's... it's despicable.

Considering the static and relatively lower quality of microphones, transmitters, receivers, plus the extreme distance involved, that's always been my assumption.
'Course, it doesn't matter. The phrase as it was heard by the entire world population when it happens is what's entered into the cultural memory.

I'vce listened to it time and again, and I just can't see that it's been lost, there's no space for it to be there. Unless he was temporarily possessed by the Spirit of Shatner and said "That'sonesmallstep. . . foraman" But even then that'd be pushing it.

Some people do have a tendency to slur their "a"s so that you almost can't tell they're there at all. That might do it. But I'd be more likely to think he screwed up.
