While the story is intresting, I'm skeptical that these french sailors were taking part in the Jules Verne Trophy. A bit too convienent methinks.

I wonder if they have intelligence of some type... squid (smaller varieties) are relatively smart... I was watching a doco and it showed how put in a maze the squid could activate levers to get through doors etc. or something to that effect.

Cool: smart giant squids. Mabye they were attacking the french racers to avenge their good name: it was the Jules Verne Trophy race after all.

Too bad the only live giant squids ever captured were babies and died. I'd love to one day bring my kids to a zoo and watch the bus-long squids do whatever it is they do. Maybe they can teach them to open giant jars, eh?
