Ok... these software engineers are really into their own world or this article is fake. Then again, Microsoft is good at pissing people off.

This is Microsoft we're talking about here. I'm not surprised one bit.

"The software giant managed to further offend the Saudis by creating another game in which Muslim warriors turned churches into mosques."

Why would you even do that?

I can't believe anyone could have been offended by Sandnigger Crusade v4.1.. it was one of the better games offered with Win3.1.

I hate to defend Microsoft here, but it really isn't as strange as it sounds.

I'm not too familiar with Microsoft's game division. But if I were guessing, since that article wasn't being specific, that it may refer to Age of Empires or its sequel. In those games, I believe that *any* empire may create priests which in significant numbers can convert enemies to your side.
Additionally, you can conquer buildings with soldiers bringing them under your control. (i.e. the converting churches to mosques)

Now, this isn't such a new innovation, the Command and Conquer games have always let you conquer buildings with engineers and Syndicate had a pursuadatron which did the same thing, albeit without mixing in religion.

In the end, this is just a case of people being too thin-skinned, having no sense of humour, and simply not doing their homework (on games...ironically)

The Microsoft game with the muslim-chanting, was it "Command and Conquer: Generals"?
I remember the trailer even had a corny voice saying in broken arab english "All your base are belong to us!".

C&C:G wasn't developed by Microsoft, but by (what was left of Westwood Studios after being absorbed by) Electronic Arts. And I don't know if its "Terrorist" faction had any units that shouted Arabic phrases when selected, as I've never actually bothered to play the game beyond the first three USA missions.

I've never played the single player game, but I have played a fair bit of the multiplayer. The GLA, which stands for I don't remember what, is supposed to be a bit broader of a coalition than exists today, but they're pretty obviously Middle Eastern, thematically. Also you can put suicide bombers on motorcycles and DRIVE THEM INTO YOUR FRIEND'S BASE, and he is sure annoyed because they are speedy.

I will guess Global Liberation Army. And I've never seen the game, played the game, read anything about it, either.

I am so right, too, I bet one million dollars.

They thought that Global Defense Initiative didn't stick in people's minds...

Oh, I remember seeing the first video briefing by GDI-colonel like it was 9 years ago. And from Seth-just-Seth of NOD. Oh such briefings did I see!
