Today, all of a sudden, Firefox has started to act a little funny. I've always been able to visit my blog by simply going to http://topher.pleh.net. Firefox automatically adds a / to the end and everything is fine. But now it comes up and says "The file / cannot be found. Please check the location and try again." I can access my blog if I add index.html to the url, but I shouldn't need to do that. I also seem to be having the same problem with a local classified service, www.thebuyerflyer.com. The images on their page aren't showing up and I get the same general message. Same problem with www.illwillpress.com as well. But not with Gateworld or Snay's blog. Any thoughts?

EDIT: So it seems as though if there's a . before the / it works fine. WTF? I'm running Firefox 1.0.6, BTW.

That might be an issue with your server, not with Firefox. Assuming that the address you've been trying is http://topher.pleh.net/ -- Apache usually will convert that URL to the index page, but sometimes that configuration can get bungled.

EDIT: Wait, I misread the part where you said it was happening to other sites, too. Nevermind; I'll check out my copy of Firefox and get back to you. [Wink]

They're on 1.0.6? How comes my little update arrow hasn't come up.

Hmm. I've just done it manually and it still says that there are no updates available. And yet, there it is on the web-site... "Firefox 1.0.6 for Windows, English (British)". Very odd.

I didn't get the update symbol either, Liam. It isn't showing up for 1.0.6, and it didn't show up when 1.0.5 was released, either.

There was actually an article in the local paper here today about the fact that Firefox 1.0.5 was buggy, and they were rushing out 1.0.6 to fix it. Maybe it didn't work.

Does everyone have a blog these days? I don't have a blog. Should I get a blog? What would I blog about? Who'd read my blog? What should I call it? Oooh, cookies.

I have a blog... which I've transfered to Myspace.com now since I prefer only friends to know how crazy I am.

I love my blog - i've kepy an electronic diary on and off for years. It's currenly at Xanga (user name precantrix if interested!)It's a bit odd as I'll be chatting to an old friend or something about what i'm up to and they'll say 'oh i know about that I read your blog' It's happened 3 or 4 times - freaky but sort of cool.....

Rather than lie to make you feel better, I will inform you now that I would only read your blog if I was really, really bored at work. And since I don't have a job at the moment, that's even less likely.

I really must keep a closer eye on my calendar. I had no idea Take A Harmless Joke Lee Made And Use It To Make A Vaguely Hurtful Joke At His Expense Day had come around again already. Why, it's Tim's favourite day of the year, I know how he looks forward to it.

Okay, it seems as though Firefox has gotten over its little spat. Everything's working fine now.

And Lee, I would read your blog.

Sorry, I didn't mean that to sound nasty. It was more a general comment about blogs. It's not that I don't love your cuddly gingerness to bits, it's just that, to be honest, there are ten million people out there informing me that they are listening to Limpkin Park and that there current mood is "grumpy". There's only so much I can take. And I have no job.
