I'm having some troubles encoding video files to MPEG-2 for burning onto DVD. I'm presently using TMPGEnc, but certain files I try to encode just crash the program. I have VirtualDub, but it apparently doesn't encode MPEG-2. Can anyone recommend another program to try? Thanks.

Uh, it'd help to at least know the properties of the files you're trying to encode (like which codecs they're compressed with), as there aren't many free alternatives to TMPGEnc around that you'd actually want to use.

(By "not many" I mean "none".)

All 3 movies I'm trying to encode are DivX.

And the audio? I don't suppose the program says anything about that or gives any other info when it dies on you?

The program doesn't give me much information about the file at all. The only reason I know that they're DivX is because that's what Windows tells me they are. When I try to set the source range of the video it crashes.
