Soon our inter-solar ballistic missile will bring untold devestation on the evil Red (planet) menace!

Rejoice my fellow Earthers!

If only Tom Cruise's brain could have lived to see this....(sniff)

Coooool. I'm kind of surprised it can make it there by next March. It'll be neat to see what it sends back. Though I'm guessing the government will keep the discovery of the giant alien spaceships that are fueling for take-off under wraps for now.

I always hope that "face on mars" is actually a buried giant robot.

Too much Voltron as a child I suspect.

It's incredible that they expect this probe to gather more data than everything else sent so far combined.

That must be a hell of a probe- if successful, mabye the design could be produced for Jupiter's moons.

That would be awesome (though in reality, probably not feasable without major changes).

...and now for your obligatory Mars conspiracy link.

Some real (unintentionaly) funny Photoshop manipulation "evidence" of aliens.

Is this what the future holds? For a nutcase site the layout is far too restrained. I mean I'm glad there are some garish colors in the tables to let you know, but the masthead and some of the other bits might lead you to believe this was someone who knows what he's talking about.

I heard the telescope can resolve objects down to the size of a coffee table (why, NASA, can't you just give us that in meters?). So it's like a spy satellite. I expect the thinness of the atmosphere helps with the seeing.

Hooray for complicated high-bandwidth space probes. Perhaps if they can get WiFi on Mars, it would attract more colonists.

The site is so much fun simply because it seems sane...untill you really read some of the articles and how NASA's real mission is to conceal TEH AWESOME COZMIK TRUTH!

I read a few years back that we have far better geological maps of Mars than Earth because the clarity of atmosphere and that nothing changes much over there.

It's kind of planet Wyoming, in that respect.

I'd crack a joke about Wyoming but I'm not american nor have I been to Wyoming so it would be like that time when Jackie Chan called the black barkeep a nigger. It all went to hell after that and I don't want that to happen to me.

Yes, you're despicable, and... and picable... and... and you're definitely, definitely despicable. How a person can get so despicable in one lifetime is beyond me. It isn't as though I haven't met a lot of people. Goodness knows it isn't that. It isn't just that... it isn't... it's... it's despicable.

According to my history professor, Wyoming is the apex of reasoning. After all, we went from tiny jagged states like Massachusetts and New Jersey to huge jagged states like Texas and California. We started squaring off with Nebraska and Kansas until we hit the Golden Shape of States: Wyoming. He also told us Georgia was founded by crooks and thieves and other assorted conmen. He said it's much the same state of affairs today.

Dr. Cook was a hoot.

And was Dr Hoot a cook?

Or was he like "Yeah, well...I'm also a cook." ?

Wyoming has the largest stockpile of Homeland Security funding per citizen in the country.
It seems that all states get equal funding to protect their monuments and potential terror-targets.

But they have none- just the money to defend...er...whatever is there.

This, of course, has dire consequenses for exploration of mars.
...er somehow.

Er.... not that I know of.
I doubt the positioning is not ideal for that, but you never know.

Still, it's not as though a buried silo would be a target of terrorism- I read a few years back about encryption coding on all US nukes added after a regan-era bomber had to ditch in the atlantic- even if someone were to somehow get into a base or silo, get into a missile, steal a warhead and get away, they'd still have a hell of a time making it arm..
