Since I quit smoking, I've developed a penchant for chewy sweets (don't ask about my waistline. Just think how much better my lungs look now!). The main ones I like are jellybeans and (Brachs) red whips (red, cherry-flavored licorice).
I tried some of this brand of jellybean for the first time a couple weeks ago. They aren't half bad! (I especially like the peppermint ones.) I have a sister that doesn't live too far from the factory. Maybe I can persuade her to send me a bag?

Not 20 seconds after I posted the above, I discovered a parody. Click on the graphic to see more:

Another parody, but with a bit gentler sense of humor:
<EDIT>Well I'll be. This one turns out to be a commercial site for real jellybeans.</EDIT>

Enlighten me on these weird extremes of American food culture. Inform me please, what wonders and the very harbingers of heavenly joy these jellybeans are.

Flavoured sugar-based one the inside covered in an equally appealing sugar-based, flavoured, coating on the outside.

jelly bean n : sugar-glazed jellied candy [syn: jelly egg]
If I am not mistaken, the inside of a jellybean is somewhat like the interior of a "Turkish delight" covered with a thick, colored sugar glaze.
EEEeeeewwww! It doesn't sound very good when described that way, does it? Well, the online Jelly Belly factory tour describes how they are made fairly well. You'll just have to take my word for it that they're pretty tasty (though I still think the "hot buttered popcorn" flavor is strange.)
