We've just bought a house. Hopefully moving in tomorrow, even though the central heating is only half-installed and the ceilings haven't been plastered yet. The carpets were only laid yesterday. . .

This is a big step for me, I've never been a homeowner before. Kate has, she owned a house when I met her, which we sold and used the profits to finance our move to New Zealand and, er, back again.

I think we've got a good deal, it's a nice house. Three bedrooms, separate lounge and dining room (or, as they put it in Estate Agent speak, two reception rooms) - unusual for many houses in the UK for the price we paid; usually it's lounge/diner or kitchen/diner. Large garden though, we're going to plant a vegetable garden - and the other day we discovered a well-established rosemary bush!

It's strange, we've viewed many houses in our time, but this is the first one I ever wanted. Usually it'd be Kate that was keen, but I'd want to hold off. This time, I could see the potential. The kitchen needs re-designing but that can wait, it's not too bad and there were other things needed doing first - replacing the individual gas burners with gas-fired central heating, removing polystyrene tiles from the ceiling and plastering it, putting in new carpets, and of course re-decorating - wallpaper, ugh.

Does it already have adungeon or will you be installing something.....custom?
If so, be sure the room has a support column to hang the swing chair from, otherwise you'll likley have a seriously embarassing accident requiring paramedics...

Congradulations, BTW!
I wish I could afford to even look at houses in south Florida.

South florida? Even if you can afford the house, it costs almost as much to insure the damn thing down there. No thank you. Safeco won't even write homeowners policies in Florida anymore. Hurricaines are expensive..... [Razz]

The area we're in seems to be a bit on the way up. In some ways it's quite council-y as estates go, in fact it looks a bit like the Falls Road without the sectarian murals! We've even got a bus goes down the road, but thanks to double glazing we can't hear it. But that's the good thing about the garden out back, you don't have to worry about what's out front.

Not the one in Belfast you don't.

Jesus H.

I'm knackered. There's something to be said for getting someone else to do the moving for you. No TV (aerial fucked), no phone till tomorrow (and phone sockets fucked anyway), we're sleeping on a futon until our bedroom gets plastered. . .

But why are you sharing all this information, no phone til tomorrow, no TV? You are just begging for a zombie attack. Think of the little one!

New house, nice. Now I have an excuse to come over and christen things and whatnot. Has anyone in a top hat given you the town key?

A goodly chunk of my family is from Belfast, albeit a few generations removed. If you run into any Blaneys (not "Blarneys", but I think the "Blayneys" are related...), lemme know. I have other roots elsewhere in Antrim and Monaghan, too. Everyone else was from Sweden, Germany, or England.

Although, f you go back farther, those Antrim McClures were originally from Scotland (thank you, Oliver Cromwell), the Blaney's were originally from Wales, and my English van Tynes were -- obviously -- from Holland.
