This is a post in the memory of America's son, John F. Kennedy, Jr. From the day his father died, we all saw that young lad. Saluting the American flag, we all embraced him as our own. Never before has a country cared so much for a president's child, and maybe never again.
Please join with me in a moment of reflection on another one of America's most famous families.

The only comfort I can find in myself is that God must have had a purpose for it..... it was thier time. Still, that does nothing for the sorrow of this country or the Kennedy/Besset family. *says many prayers for them all*

A plane carrying two men from Alaska disappeared near Ellensburg today. Who are they? I have no idea.

I tend to agree. This is tragic, but tragedy strikes everyday. I feel much worse for the people who die and are not commended. I frankly don't get the whole mystique around the Kennedys.

I think they're spending too much time together, that is of course, if you catch my drift. Ok, so here is a fellow that does not have a full pilot's licence or instrument rated and therefor should be flying using visual flight rules (i.e. not and night and not in hazy conditions). He is flying at night in these conditions over water with no flotation devices (or so the news is reporting). Tragedies happen, that is true; however, poor judgement and unskilled mistakes can be avoided.

It is sad that someone who was so admired by so many had to die because he did everything wrong. Sorry, folks, but all the flying magazines are gonna use this one as an example of what not to do.
He originally wanted to fly over land but (according to one report I heard) his wife wanted to give her sister a lift to Hyannis port. He had very little time on this type of aircraft and would have been considered wise to postpone the flight until conditions had improved. He allowed time pressures (and perhaps his wife's desire to give her sister a lift) to over-ride his judgement. He may have even felt his masculinity was on the line, though we may never know.
He took a type of plane he was newly certified on and flew it in conditions he had little experience with. He flew at night, over water, in poor weather. He and two others are dead. The tragedy lies in the fact that they could have avoided this fate if they had not been in some sort of hurry.
My sympathy is reserved mainly for the survivors. As I am not a follower of Kennedy exploits (except for the ones they can't keep out of the media), could someone tell me if RFK Jr. had any kids? What about the sister-in-law? Was she married? Was she someone's mom? She was certainly someone's daughter.

Let me clarify; I hold no ill will towards the Kennedys. I don't even mind all the news coverage, really. I mean, people like celebrities. But I heard that story while I was out and about today, and it seemed to have an odd sort of cosmic connection to it.

His mother and father had magic. I felt it, and I don't remember his father. Most people who do remember, cared deeply for those two kids. I watched them grow up as I was growing up. I feel bad for Caroline. She is the last of he family.
Baloo: As far as I know, there were no kids involved. JFK Jr and wife didn't have any, none have been mentioned in the sisters case. Caroline has two, I think.
He was at least the third Kennedy to die in an air crash. An Aunt and an Uncle before him, his father and Uncle were asasinated. Ted was in a plane crash in the 60's, and recieved a broken back. One cousin died of a drug OD. another in a sking accident.
I started out with a fasination with the asasination of JFK, and became a fan of the man and his ideals. The one thing he did that impressed me the most, was that he learned from his mistakes. That's something you can't say for a lot of US presidents. Most of them believe they are god by the time they get into office.

Seeing that little boy salute (no doubt because he was told to) makes me sick. It's not the military please. Saluting the flag is the most preposterous thing I'know of.
JFK: I'm really sorry the guy's dead, but does he really deserve this amount of attention outside of the US?

I've heard a lot of truly preposterous things in my life, such as **appropriate Netherlandish examples deleted, I don't want this going to the flameboard** but saluting your flag (and by extension, the people who fought and died to keep you free under it) is not one of them.
And yes, the president IS considered the commander-in-chief of the US's armed forces, (even if he does little or no actual commanding) so saluting HIM is appropriate as well.
We'll never know for sure whether he was prompted or not, or just imitating the soldiers. I've heard it both ways, from people I'm just as sure don't really know either.
As for JFK Jr: I'm sorry he's dead, he seemed like that rare thing nowadays, an OK Kennedy, but he died doing something, probably a series of somethings, that was spectacularly stupid for a man of his age and experience. You DON'T fly a plane under those conditions, especially if you're wearing a cast.

Saluting a piece of cloth is the last thing I'll ever do. OK? Especially for my country, which I do not love unreservedly nor hate with all my guts. And I will make sure I'll never die for it. I pay my taxes and stuff, but if they expect me to do everything I can do for my country, no. Why should I? And definitely NOT for that queen. I may sound like a fuckhead but you better get used to it, for I am a fuckhead indeed. So.
And what are those stupid Dutch things you heard of? And why do you assume that I agree with them (otherwise you would not have made that remark?)

I'd like to add, children doing military stuff is more something for Germany some decades ago. Oh no wait, it's called patriotism.

I'd just like to mention that it was patriots who stopped those Germans from a few decades ago, liberating your country in the process. My grandfather was honoured by Holland for his services, along with many other Canadian veterns. Do you think they were over there fighting because they had nothing better to do?
