WHen we find a blind scientist with hairy palms, we know who he is, and we can strangle him. Or put him in a room with some independant thinking robots....

So, what, we're laughing because we think robots will never run around autonomously on the battlefield, or because we think it's improbable that said robots will achieve sentience and take over the human race?

As I recall from my SimEarth days, to get sentient robots, you need to detonate a nuclear blast over a Nanotech Age city.

Nice Constitution class article over at Canon Fodder, Shik ( I am assuming it is you, and not someone else with the same out-of-the-ordinary name). As for the Robots.... I'll settle for an R2D2, maybe an english butler bot like C3PO.

Shik: Shit, really? That never happened to me...probably because I almost never made it to the nanotech age...most of the time everything died out as fish or something...I really *fail* at that game.

Yeah, that's me, Sean. And thanks. All it is is an outgrowth of my personal universe.
And yeah, Dan, I found out about them by accident because I was bored & started nuking the shit out of things. I was looking at the fauna diversity map & noticed a black square, which was used for things that didn't fit the usual lifeform classifications; the only time I'd seen it before was when trichordates evolved. I check it out & there was a robot. And BOY did that fucker multiply! They don't care about biomes & soon they were everywhere. You can even give them sentience with the monolith tool.
