I never spent much time around talking birds before my family went to Tennessee to visit my wife's best friend last fall. I always thought they just muttered a few random words here and there.
Not the case. This bird my wife's friend has knows what she's saying. She has certain things she says when she's supposed to go to sleep, when you wake up and walk past her in the mornings and when you're mad at her and scolding her.
She may not fully comprehend what she's saying to the point of a conversation, but it's definitely more than just something random.
Just like this bird. Taught to recite it's address when lost.

African Greys are very smart indeed. I've read of one who had a vocabulary of about 850 words, and I've seen several in documentaries who can recognize and name objects and so on. I've heard some people speculate that some species of dinosaurs might've been intelligent based on the intelligence shown by some species of birds.
