That was shik's rendition of the Bionic Man. Wasn't there something in the Forever War about combat space suits that automatically severed limbs when it detected injury? Now that's the kind of asinine concept I can see certain military types going for.

For some strange, strange reason, I thought he was doing the theme to Batman.
I read about something like that in Discover magazine years ago - nano-cloth shirts that could detect damage in itself or sense blood soaking through it, and send for a medic. They were talking about built-in tourniquets too I think, and integrated vitals sensors. Not with the severing of the limbs however.
