I've seen the Comedy Central show, and I thought it was funny as hell!
From the article: "ASA officials said a South African man, Moegamat Khan, had filed a complaint..." [Dunham] said: "I thought Khan was awesome in Star Trek."

You know...no. It's not funny. I never really used to think that those words would come out of my mouth (or hands, as it were) but I realized a while ago I can't find humor in the killing of innocent people. There are funny deaths of innocent people, of course, but the act of killing a person who has done nothing wrong just for the sake of your ideals is so unspeakably evil to me that there's nothing but blackness in it.

quote:ASA officials said a South African man, Moegamat Khan, had filed a complaint that the commercial was offensive to the Islamic religion and created an impression that all Muslims were terrorists.
But the hate spewed by muslim leaders and fanatics that gets replayed around the world is okay and free speach I guess. It's not offensive comedy that gives the "impression that all Muslims are terrorists" but the glaring lack of vocal opposition to them. Recent polls show that most Islamic people (in the middle east) view AlQueida with neutral or favorable attitudes.
Sounds like South Africa (as well as all of Europe) has been cowed by extremists into limiting their freedom to watch what they want- one man who claims to represent the will of a whole 2% of the country is all it takes to make officials censor the public's right to view what it wants- all because of the riots and criminal violence of upset muslims after that Danish cartoon contraversy.
Sounds like the terrorists have made real headway in affecting how people live if comedeans have to walk on eggshells.

I had a conversation about this yesterday. Someone mentioned it at a freshers thing (free chilli, yum). I say conversation - he mentioned it, and then went on to why he was an athiest, and, er, we'll I stoped listening at that point and concentrated on the chilli. It was good.
