Go to Google Maps. Under "Get Directions," input Los Angeles, California, as the place of origin, and Honolulu, Hawaii, as the destination. Notice anything strange about the route?

Hmm, Kayaking across the Pacific sounds like fun...

They used to have something similar for a trip from New York to London, as I recall...
The funnier thing is when you ask for walking directions!

56 days? How long does it take to kayak from Seattle to Hawaii anyway?
And I've always wanted to visit Japan.....

The very longest that I could find is Mount Pearl, Newfoundland, Canada, walking (and rowing) for 227 days, 20 hours and covering 28,468 km to Dover, Tasmania, Australia.

I've been to Dover, Tasmania. Nice pub there. Had lunch. You can go further south too - to Southport - where the sealed road ends - then the dirt road south to Cockle Creek (where we stopped) - and then if you want to go any further south it's a 2 hour hike to Lands End. That's the furtherest point south for Tasmania and Australia.
