I have it at work. Since my compy has minimum requirments, it doesn't run fast, but it runs well enough. It's through about 85% of the first block of information.

This will probably never turn up anything, of course. It seems more of a way to make the public think that they're doing something useful when they really aren't.

SETI watches the skies for radio signals of intelligent origin. All of the data they gather needs to analyzed for the patterns inherint in ordered signals. As a private program, SETI does not have unlimited computer resources. This allows them to distribute chunks of data to computers all over the world, each one working on a tiny piece of the overall puzzle. Parallel processing in its most nifty form.

There are two or three computers here at the office, running the screen saver. I am on the road a lot, so mine gets a good bit of time to work with it. Very slow going though. It still hasn't gotten through the first block of data.

Hey Tora are you behind a firewall of somekind, that's the only thing I could think of that could interfere. No actually this is the best way to process anything really really big, because can you image how much processing power is wasted while the computer is on doing nothing, it this kind of way is how they finally beat the 127 bit code the creators said it take a million, or so years to break.
