Ed Toler sent me this. I thought I'd share it with you.

The Washington Post's Style Invitational asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting or changing one letter, and supply a new definition. Here are some recent winners:

Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the recipient who doesn't get it.

Reintarnation: Coming back to life as a hillbilly

    Giraffiti: Vandalism spray-painted very high

Foreploy: Any misrepresentation about yourself for the purpose of obtaining sex

Inoculatte: To take coffee intravenously when you are running late

    Hipatitis: Terminal coolness

    Osteopornosis: A degenerate disease

Karmageddon: It's like, when everybody is sending off all these really bad vibes, right? And then, like, the Earth explodes and it's like a serious bummer.

Glibido: All talk and no action

Dopeler effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.

Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a refund from the IRS, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with.

Ignoranus: A person who's both stupid & an asshole.

Hey! Almost every word we use is borrowed, adapted, or based on words from other languages (and occasionally invented). It's fun!

Don't complain! We inherited all our linguistic heritage (except spelling) from you!

Thanks!

[Well, not you in particular, but the English-speaking world started where you live, after all!]

I think that everyone on the planet should just agree to speak Klingon. That way no one can claim that some one else messed up or stole their language. It might take a while to get used to my mom telling me that she'll shove my veggies down the gullet of my corpse if I don't eat them, though.

To take a single step beyond the boundaries thus specially drawn around the powers of Congress is to take possession of a boundless field of power, no longer susceptible of any definition."

I think it's hilarious that Esperanto, a language specifically invented to circumvent nationality and intended as a universal "Earth-speak" is spoken by fewer people than those who speak Klingonese.

I must learn a few words and phrases someday.
