Friends did attempt racial mixing, with Ross and Julie in season 2, but that's about as ethnic as you are allowed to go apparently.
Of course, there is the logic that, generally, black people do tend to link up with black people, and white with white. Although there are many exceptions, the races do tend to match up to each other. As for the reason for this...I don't want to venture a guess.

I never new Dorn was black till I saw him on a game show, sometime in season two. I was hopeing Geordi and Leah Brahms would get together bbefore it was all over.

In "All Good Things...", when Geordi visited Picard at his home in France, Picard asked him how Leah was doing. He also asked about the Daystrom Institue. I've always assumed that he was referring to Leah Brahms.
