When you add Religion to any equation, the potential for idiocy approaches infinity.

There should be an equation for that.

Calling something stupid doesn't make it disappear. I know people like this. There are people like this on this forum. They're not stupid, but religion makes them close off and they'll question everything but the thing that says it is unquestionable. And that there is the problem.

Man, this cracks me up:

quote:

God: But God does not always rely on His subjects to do His punishing. Very often--according to your various "holy scriptures"--God does the punishing directly.

Neale Donald Walsch: Wait a minute. You mean you don't wait for Judgment Day? You punish people while they are on earth?

God: Certainly I do! Especially if they don't believe in Me, and in my goodness! Wouldn't you? If you were all-powerful, all-wise, all-good and kind and all-loving, wouldn't you punish those who didn't believe you? I mean, wouldn't that make you really mad?

This kind of topic makes me want to get my hands on a copy of Roddenberry's "The God Thing"...

"If this is your God, he's not very impressive. He's got so many psychological problems; he's so insecure. He demands worship every seven days. He goes out and creates faulty humans and then blames them for his own mistakes. He's a pretty poor excuse for a supreme being." -- Gene Roddenberry, "Star Trek: The God Thing"

Coincidentally, I went to high school right next door to the headquarters of the Missouri Synod. Their building has a pond in front of it. The pond attracts geese. The geest shit all over the area, including the school.

I never actually thought about this before, but "He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die" doesn't actually make sense! If you believe in Christ, you'll be alive, until you die - although, on the other hand, if you believe in Christ you'll never die! Idiocy!

I believe the way they interpreted that for us back in grade school was something along the lines of "He who believes in me will live [spiritually], even though he dies [physically]; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die [spiritually].".

Nothing should ever make you want to do that.

Yes, you're despicable, and... and picable... and... and you're definitely, definitely despicable. How a person can get so despicable in one lifetime is beyond me. It isn't as though I haven't met a lot of people. Goodness knows it isn't that. It isn't just that... it isn't... it's... it's despicable.
