I'm actually rather surprised at the "New Age" aspect. I guess building beliefs based on "Ishmael," "Stranger In A Strange Land," "Smilla's Sense Of Snow," "Fight Club," & Babylon 5 with smatterings of Egyptian & Asian tendencies will do that.
