An IM conversation with our dearest right-wing nut:
quote:PianOmega47: They launched the Ronald Reagan recently. :-)
PianOmega47: I'm forced to wonder what class of ship they'll name after Bill Clinton...
PianOmega47: And who the heck was John Stennis, anyhow?
JeffKardde: I believe he was an Admiral.
JeffKardde: The Navy only tends to name ships after "Friends of the Navy" -- ever wonder why there's no USS Tom Jefferson?
JeffKardde: Senator John Stennis
PianOmega47: Never occured to me.
PianOmega47: Ah.
PianOmega47: Well, then, NOTHING military will be named after Clinton, no? :-)
JeffKardde: From Mississippi. 41 years in the Senate.
JeffKardde: Well, who was in charge of downsizing the military?
PianOmega47: H. W. Bush, originally, but he had an organized plan with which to do it. Clinton just killed it.
PianOmega47: Mr. "Deep loathing of the military", remember?
JeffKardde: Well, no offense intended here, but when our military is doing what it did in Vietnam, it deserves a deep loathing (or, at least, the deep loathing of the politicians who sent them there)
PianOmega47: Deep loathing of JFK and LBJ is totally different from deep loathing of the military.
JeffKardde: You left out Nixon.
JeffKardde: And why JFK? He didn't commit the US to the long-term action LBJ did.
JeffKardde: I think you just hate anyone who runs as a Democrat, myself.
PianOmega47: Nixon got them out.
PianOmega47: No, just the idiot liberal ones.
JeffKardde: After, what, six years? If he pulled them out the day he got elected, yeah, maybe you'd have a point.
PianOmega47: Difficult.
PianOmega47: I'm not partisan. I simply believe in things that liberals are the antithesis of. You know, like freedom, and the ability to defend ourselves?
JeffKardde: He kept 'em in there, Omega. That's unforgiveable. He should've pulled them out immediately. Sure, he should get credit for getting 'em out. He should also get credit for keeping them in.
JeffKardde: Yeah, 'cuz you know I've got fifty people breaking into my home everynight.
JeffKardde: You ARE partisan.
PianOmega47: No, I'm not.
JeffKardde: YES you are!
PianOmega47: Not.
JeffKardde: That quote is going on Flare
PianOmega47: I don't agree with Republicans so much because they're Republicans. I agree with them because, for the most part, they're right, and Democrats, for the most part are wrong.
And, just as a side note to avoid confusion:
quote:PianOmega47: Quote the entire conversation, or I'll throw a hissy-fit. I've done it before, when quoted out of context.
PianOmega47: OR, run it by me first. Whichever.
JeffKardde: I'm quoting from "They launched the Ronald Reagan" to "they're right, Dems are wrong."
JeffKardde: Is that okay?
PianOmega47: Sounds cool.
PianOmega47: Might want to point out that I never got a chance to say that Nixon really should have pulled out sooner, of course.
Going solely on the definition, Omega could be categorized as partisan. One of the definitions is that partisan means being an ardent supporter of a cause, person, belief, or idea. In that way, Omega is partisan in that he is an ardent supporter of Democrats being wrong and Republicans being right. The applicable quote is:
quote:PianOmega47: I don't agree with Republicans so much because they're Republicans. I agree with them because, for the most part, they're right, and Democrats, for the most part are wrong.
Going strictly by definition, though, everyone is a partisan when it comes to something. When it comes to Enterprise, I'm a partisan. I'm an ardent supporter of the cause. On the opposite side of that same issue, Monkey Master of Mim is partisan as well. He's an ardent supporter of the idea that Enterprise is gonna suck.
quote:I simply believe in things that liberals are the antithesis of.
Partisan? Hell, yes he is. We all are to some extent but he makes an art of it...that and being a reactionary.
But that sentence, oi.

How can a republican's opinion on how to run this country be right where as the democrate's opinions be wrong?

It's clear that the Dogs are the conservatives: They want to retain the status quo, and strengthen their quality of life (by developing the allergy cure), while the Cats are Liberals : They want to change the status quo, rule everything and tell everybody else how to live.

*though I did not see C&D yet*
Well I say the exact opposite: Dogs are liberals because they want to find a way to strengthen the quality of life for all pets, while Cats are ultra-neo-conservatives, they want to find a way to segregate all dogs and make cats above all else. The cats could be likened to those ultra-conservative Ontario Tories for that matter.
Though I understand that you may be joking about the Cat bit, one has to remember that not all liberals are power-hungry assholes. Conservatives can be too. Go talk to Mike Harris. The "Rule Everything" applies mostly to Authoritarians, in C&D, Mr. Tinkles.
It would have been better if this was about authoritarianism and Libertarianism. Then you would have a much better comparison.
As for Omega being Partisan, yes. Very. Unless Omega has any evidence of JFK and LBJ being very complicit in the Vietnam War, then I don't believe an iota of what he is saying.
AFAIK, official record says that it was Nixon who started, and prolonged the war in Vietnam. After he resigned, his sucessor actually had the balls to pull US troops out of Vietnam after realizing that the war was a losing cause.
As for JFK being a liberal, I've heard stories that he was the exact opposite, that's right, a conservative.
PianOmega47: I don't agree with Republicans so much because they're Republicans. I agree with them because, for the most part, they're right, and Democrats, for the most part are wrong.
If this is not a partisan quote, then I'll shave my head bald.
When a party presents something Partisans believe in, no matter how flawed it may be, they will always support it. When a different party presents something Partisans do NOT believe in, no matter how perfect the plan may be, they will always find some nitpick to attack it vehemently.
Omega not being partisan is like saying Castro is a capitalist. Sorry for the comparison, but that's what I see.

I don't have any friends and the bus service in this god forsaken town doesn't serve the entire town. I'm living in one of the areas it doesn't serve. So I can't get up one morning and decide, "Gee. I'd like to go to a movie." And my family is too poor to go on a vaction somewhere.
Oh.......I am so looking forward to leaving this hell hole.....

JFK sent advisors to Vietnam. When he died, LBJ increased the military presence considerably. Nixon did pull the troops out, but only after he'd kept 'em in there for five or six years (and really, is it any coinidence that the North Vietnamese were overunning South Vietnam at the time?).

Jeff: I stand corrected. As for North Vietnam running over South Vietnam, it was probably the libs fault because the Liberals in LBJ's administration told the North Vietnamese Commies to do so, because both the North and Liberals are leftists.
