A Twin 'artificial' construct related to literature that is not a physical being...

Well, let's narrow it down a bit before we actually guess that...
Q: Is it from Europe (which doesn't include Russia, for the purposes of this question)?
There's always the whole Louis XIV/Man In the Iron Mask deal, but there's no way that he could be said to have skin "in a manner of speaking"...
Unless, of course, the answer is EXACTLY "The Man in the Iron Mask", in which case many of the ambiguous answers make perfect sense. The actual MAN had skin, but the book by that title obviously doesn't. The MAN was a twin. It's from Europe, in both understandings. The book is an artificial construct. It is, in a manner of speaking, a person. It was created by a human. Has been portrayed as a physical entity, but wasn't. Related to literature. And finally, Louix the XIV at that age was "a bit smaller" than the size of an average adult male.
So that's my guess.
Q: Is the answer "The Man in the Iron Mask"?

The359: yes, when it was portrayed it was portrayed as a human being.
Omega: It is not "The Man In The Iron Mask." You're probably the closest to it second only to Shik.

(whoops -- sorry, forgot to type "not" above originally. Sorry for any confusion ...)

No, it's not Romeo. Or Juliet. Or from anything by William Shakespeare.
Some of you people need to go read back through some people's guesses and my answers. The hint is there if you look closely enough. I mean, hell, I thought I spelled it out enough that you'd at least be able to get the right book.
