One: I am getting so f**king sick of 7of9. Ever sence she showed up in Voyager, it's been all about how often the writers can have her show up to please the horny guys between the ages of 15 and 25!
Two: They already did this before!!! Not only are they copying episodes from the other Star Trek series. They are copying episodes from a few seasons back. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there a VOY episode where Chakotay and Janeway were stranded on a planet because they supposedly had the Vidian Phage?
Geez. I REALLY hope that Voyager ends with the whole series being nothing but a screwed up dream Paris had or something like that. Or maybe they enconter another Krenim timeship and they are erased from history. That would be sweet!

At least, that's what I think they were thinking. Just a thought.

Um... If they only ever did one episode about being stranded on a planet, they'd also have to do only one story about a lot of other very general things. They'd run out of stories really fast.
It's like saying "A time travel episode? What a copy off of other eps!".
And, yes, there is a Voyager Forum. Fancy that... *move 'thread', for great justice*

Why does this episode remind me of that Brooke Shields movie Blue Lagoon? But I agree that the people on Voyager's writing staff are getting lazy. They should have just let the last season be filled with stories from fans. At least it could be more original and can hopefully explain or fix the continuity error.

The question was "What the hell were the writers thinking?"
Easily answered. They're pandering to the least common denominator type of audiance that they think can get them big ratings by flashing Seven Mary Three's tits and ass to a horny teenage male audience.
Which is, in my opinion, terribly sophmoric and perverse in the extreme.

I cannot think of a worse idea. Cutting myself with a million papercuts and jumping in large vat of vinegar, filled with scary Man Train conductors with pruning shears is a fantabulous idea in comparison.

Well, a spoiler synopsis of the episode is now available at trekweb and trektoday. It sounds better than my original impressions, and the overriding themes described in the synopsis seem to justify the presence of the show's resident Indian. Seven is there, of course, 'cuz Seven has to be there.
Mark <--- Does anyone even consider Chakotay an Indian anymore?

Having just read the spoilers, I really can't figure what the anguish is all about. The episode resembles none that I'd have seen before, and at the same time all of them. There's no single plot element that would be completely new, but also no combination that would have been over-used in the recent or even distant past.
As far as the plotline appeal goes, this is a potential winner. There's morality, adventure, romance, soap, exotic locations and sets and effects. Not much in the way of immediate inconsistencies or plot holes, either.
Of course, with sufficient effort, it *can* still become a flop...
