Again, I was watching the DS9 finale and something occured to me. When Sisko 'died' or whatever, went off to the Prophet's i guess, he brought Cassidy into the Prophet's Realm (heartbeat world) to say goodbye. Jake, his ORPHAN SON, got squat! Why not bring them both? Jake's mom got killed by the Borg, and now his Dad disappears without saying goodbye. This seems needlessly cruel to me.

Consider what happened in the alternate future when Jake thought Sisko was dead ("The Visitor"). Jake basically devoted his life to bringing Sisko back. Sisko remembers that Jake did this when he gets back. Now Sisko is putting his son in the position of having to go through something similar again. I thought this very unsatisfying especially when you consider that the DS9 story was originally supposed to revolve around the relationship between Sisko and Jake.

Thoughts?

I think Jake was almost totally abandoned by DS9 writers those last several years. True, he wasn't the most interesting character - at least not to me, anyway - but its pretty bad when they show two, three, or more recurring characters more than they show a character who is supposed to be a regular.

Behr did mention his regret at Jake's situation a few times towards the end. Of course, there's a difference between mentioning it and doing anything about it, but there you go.

The scene would've lost cohesion with adding Jake to it. That's what Moroe said, and they'd tried it, IIRC, but it didn't work.

Well, in my opinion, then, they should've had Jake in that scene instead of Cassidy. I cried at "The Visitor" and then called my parents! How touching would a scene with Sisko and Jake have been? It would've been great and given Jake a reason not blow himself out an airlock! Course, Kira's comforting might provide that reason too...

Anyway, you know that when Sisko comes back, he'll be all wrapped up with his new kid and Jake will get screwed once again.
