I know it was one of the front runners .. simply because it had the advantage of stealth over size .. more maneuverable ... It had a great tactical advantage during that war.
But remember that the Ent-E participated in the Dominion War too..(even tho' we never say it in action - it was only implied in ST:Insurrection) and I think that the Ent-E vs the Defiant .. the defiant would loose hands down.. so I wouldn't say that the Defiant was the Best ship in the War ..
The Ent-e probly wasn't the only Sovereign Class ship in the war either.

Depends what you mean by "best". Which had the best engagement record? Which had the largest "kill-ratio"? Which design proved itself the most resilient?

You have to remember that Starfleet probably has some version of combinded arms tactics. If each ship has a different purpose, how can you define a best?
And in the end, even the largest and best ship is useless without its resupply and munitions.

There was no best ship in the war...every class of ship had it's own purpose in the war. The Defiant class and the galaxy,akira,sovereign...etc were probably the most popular classes with the fans but there was no "Best" ship...
To Dax: You can't say that the Ent-E yould defeat the Defiant. The name of the ship tells you about the nature of the ship (Defiant: defies being destroyed, resilliant, maneuverable...). What would happen if the Ent-E attacked the klingon Vor'Cha class cruiser in (can't remebmer the name) the episode when the Defiant attacked it? The Defiant was too small and maneuverable to hit, while the Ent-E would certanly be a much bigger target and therefore destroyed because it can't take on a Vor'Cha directly....
That's my opinion of the matter and I'm sorry if I offended anyone

I think you have a somewhat optimistic view of the Vor'Cha. In the first ep I saw it in, "Redemption", it got it's ass kicked by two pesky BoP's. I admit they had the element of surprise, but I don't think a Vor'Cha would stand a chance against the sovereign's firepower. Despite it being 200 metres shorter than the sovvie, it's about 15 years older too.

Hey, It's fun to talk about favourites! Mine is the Prometheus too, if it only could be oputfitted with REAL torpedos, like quantums! But in the Dominion war I'd have to say the Galaxy-class. Not in one battle-ep did one get blown up (that we saw, anyway)! And I'm not counting "The Jem Hadar", that was unfair.

When did the Akira get 15 torpedo launchers I thought it only had two(DS9 technical manual). As for the best ship you need the right tools for the right job and in a war you will need small fighters to large heavy cruisers.

The Akira does have around 15 torp launchers. Jaeger who designed the ship himself said so. There are launchers in the weapons mod on the rollbar, lower saucer just above the deflector dish, and sides of saucer facing port and starboard. The ships section of the DS9 tech man is mostly wrong.
