Let's say Data didn't die in Nemesis or B-7 took his place in SF. Now, let's say years later, he's a commander and up for promotion. The question is, would he be promoted based on his command skills or because of 24th century affirmative action? Also, do you think he'd have trouble gaining the respect of his crew if he were promoted to captain? In "Redemption part 2", Datas first officer on the Suterland (or whatever the ship was named) didn't respect Data as his superior until Data acts like a smartass and causes the cloaked warbirds to retreat. In "The Gambit 1&2", Data fits into the role of captain very well.

Edit: Oh and if this doesn't make sense, blame it on my train of thought that decided to pull an Amtrack and derail. -_-

The first time Data bitch-slapped someone through a bulkhead, he'd have all the respect he could handle.

Emotionless Data is really just a non-snotty Vulcan and with Emotions he's as human in many ways as any Captain.

Too bad we couldnt see another series with him in the second seat.....(sigh!)

Nope. Brent Spiner doesn't want to do Trek anymore, from what I understand. Doesn't matter though, Nemesis was the last TNG movie.

Data bitch-slapping?

Sounds like a mirror-universe Data! [Smile]
