My family (which includes 2 avid Trekkers) will be visiting California in August. I'd like to visit that wierd rock formation Kirk fought Lazarus on in TOS (actually I think it appeared in several episodes). Can anyone tell me its name/location?

I've never been there, but I plan to go later this year some time.

Picard: Mr. Crusher, what's our maximum speed this week?
Wesley: [checking manual] Uh, 9.4, sir.
Picard: Very good. Take us to Warp 9.8 then.
Wesley: Aye, sir. Warp 9.2 it is.

Remember to take along some large, irregular chunks of styrofoam painted light brown, so you can reenact your favorite scenes.

Yeah, but that before you decided to go to California.

That formation would be in every movie I made, somewhere, were I to make movies.

Well, that formation was practically in every western ever made, and every sci-fi TV show ("The Zanti Misfits" landed there in The Outer Limits, for instance).

Thanks.

Finally found it on the maps - Hwy 14, near Palmdale. (North of LA).

Any other Trek-oriented sites nearby?

::MapQuests it::

Go on Harbor Dr, merge on the I-5 North, then Highway 14, Agua Dulce Canyon Rd exit, turn left on Escondido Canyon Rd. 2 hours, 37 minutes. 163 miles. Bet I can do it in 2 hours and 34 minutes.

Starfleet Headquarters aka the Tillman Water Reclamation Plant and Japanese Gardens is located in Van Nuys, CA.

It's beautiful, you can't even tell your in the middle of the land of porn and smog that is the San Fernando Valley.

Address and images here:

Here's a listing of other Trek and Non-Trek movies that film in locations in Southern California - though most simply list Paramount Studios, there are other locations as well.

I live near Starfleet Headquarters... I mean the Tillman Plant in Van Nuys. I've visited Vasquez Rocks also. I am also going to visit the sets of Enterprise since I have a connection to a Paramount Studios Senior VP.
