Aren't you a regular? And yet, this is...well, OK, I guess someone might care. Maybe I am just grumpy tonight. But, like, I dunno, this could use something more than "check out this awesome fan movie OK bye 4 now!!" And possibly it belongs in Designs and Creativity, though I'm not really sure if that's for the discussion of everything "designed and created," or just things the individual thread-starter has made, or what. It is a talmudic mystery.

Bitchy tonight, eh Sol?

These movies are really MST3K material but I like thte 3-D modeling just enough to browse the site...

It'd be great if these guys would just update the VFX on some TOS episodes instead of casting their friends as an all 20's something starship crew (Balance of Terror or The Doomsday Machine would be nice.....even The Ultimate Computer could be made cool).

I dig these guys' enthusiasm (it's obvious that they really love Trek, a sentiment which I share) and as far as fan films go, I guess it's a pretty good one, but it's still rather laughable and really not very good. And the lengths they go to in their attempts to tie quasi-unrelated elements of Trek lore together are quite...um...fanboyish. But I suppose that's to be expected, being as it is that they are, in fact, fanboys.

All I can say is I'm looking forward to Manny Coto's attempts to do the same in this season of ENT. I have a feeling the results will be somewhat more enjoyable.

But yeah, check it out anyway, if only for shits and giggles. It is free, after all. And some of the effects are pretty.

Yeah, it's fun to watch starship moving like bees [Smile]

But I wish anyone who would like to decipher the plot good luck.

I'm not a big fan of fanmovies, but New Voyages and Exeter are just bearable. But only because they clearly put a lot of effort into it.

Exeter tries to stay closer to the original effects, whereas New Voyages is really going all-out with the VFX. I'm not a big fan of the aircraft-like maneuvers of the starships, but I do dig the Stargate-like Guardian of Forever 'set'.

The story has a very big WTF!?-factor. And you know, if you're going the all-out fanboy way, why still use that annoying 16xx registry for the Farragut? Everyone knows the Farragut is NCC-1702...

Err.. strike all that. I'm utterly confused after only 5 minutes. And Kirk still looks like the Fonz.

I can't seem to get it to play. I downloaded the zip and extracted the file, but what player do I have to use in order to see it?

EDIT: Nevermind. Grabbed it from one of the mirrors.

Picard: Mr. Crusher, what's our maximum speed this week?
Wesley: [checking manual] Uh, 9.4, sir.
Picard: Very good. Take us to Warp 9.8 then.
Wesley: Aye, sir. Warp 9.2 it is.

At least they use the right font for their ships. I HATE that 'Federation Hull' font with a passion.

Also, The Lens flare can be quite effective if used right. In 3d Studio Max, I can basicly create photon torpedos with nothing but the lens flare.

Yeah....you're right: it should be used sparingly though.
