Which reminds me that I just finished my review of this very DVD for a German DVD review site.
The Special edition features an audiocommentary by Robert Wise and Nicholas Meyer (!) as well as various interviews with the late great director.
Oh and don't forget he also did West Side Story!

And The Andromeda Strain. . . and The Haunting. . . And - I never knew this - his first film as director was one I absolutely love, Curse of the Cat People (the most out-of-leftfield sequel ever, until we found out Connor MacLeod came from planet Zeist). He also edited Citizen Kane and The Magnificent Ambersons - Since he did the former, I presume he did Welles' original cut of the latter, and had nothing to do with the execrable studio cut.

Day the Earth Stood Still remains the sci-fi movie. Everything else pales by comparison.
Even Iliea's giggling boobs from TMP.

I was a bit disappointed when I watched The Day the Earth Stood Still and discovered that, in fact, the Earth didn't stand still any longer than lunchtime.

Well,as opposed to all those other days when it stood still.
I've lived my own version of that movie: The Day that Work Dragged Ass.

In case anyone is interested, Turner Classic Movies is showing Robert Wise films all day Friday, the 23rd. And Citizen Kane and The Magnificent Ambersons, for that matter.

Sweet. I wish I could see them all (gotta work a double).
Still, they're worth buying...
