One can't seem to find anywhere that will sell Starfleet Command 3, so one downloaded it!
However, one is confounded, because even though one has got Directx version 9.0, SFC3 won't launch because it says I haven't got version 8.1 or later. This is annoying.
So, does anyone know if any vendors are still selling SFC3?
Failing that, does anyone know where one might download an uncorrupted/unbuggy version?
And out of perverse curiosity, does anyone have any idea why it would think I haven't got a sufficiently recent version of Directx?
Cheers
Oh, hang one. There is one question I probably should have asked first!
Is SFC3 any good?

Install the patch and then go to your sfc config file and look for the line "MakeItSo=0". Change the 0 to a 1. That will keep the game from asking you to insert a CD in order to play. Also right click on the game icon on the desktop(and/or the one in the game folder) and choose "properties". When the menu pops up choose "compatibility" and check the box next to "disable visual themes". After that enjoy but note:
No voices
No online play
And that's that. Now if only someone would tell me where I could either download or buy for cheap a copy of Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force Expansion Pack.

I have SFC3. And I was sorely dissapointed by the game. There are numerous bugs, the campaign is short, and doesn't allow much time for wandering before you're forced to the next mission. The conquest campaign is pathetic for any race, with almost no action whatsoever, plus the missions are lame and repetitive. VERY repetitive. I played 6 "scan the planet" missions in a row before I finally said "To hell with this". The customizeable starship idea is neat tho.
On a related note I caught the last 2 minutes of Electric Playground on TV today and they featured a new star trek game similar to Bridge Commander. I didn't catch the name or what platform it's on. If anyone has any info about it, let me know. It looks pretty cool.

That would be Tactical Assault, one of a threesome of games coming out to commemorate Trek's 40th anniversary.

Cool, too bad it looks like it's only going to be for Console. Stupid consoles.

PS2 does not equal 'what a shame'....*Sigh* Do you know that the XBox (no idea about the 360 along these lines) contains *faulty hardware*? Microshit actually bought RAM chips that were being thrown out so as to cut costs...which means at initialization, they have to be checked to see if they work..if not, they're clocked down and checked again, so on ad fixitum. (Yes I made fixitum up.) Bottom line is, XBoxes differ in performance, the one thing consoles should *NOT* do...and worse, there are XBoxes with bad performance. My old XBox would stutter in MGS3 when the *rain* started.
