This TNG season 1 episode was on tonight here in Australia - repeated on PayTV for about the 20th time...
I caught it again - gee this was a good episode...
Picard is DEFINATELY the best captain...
And who says trek doesn't do 'linking' episodes - this episode ties directly into "Conspiracy". I wonder if section 31 could have been behind any thing in these episodes

Actually, if I remember correctly, the Conspiracy aliens were originally supposed to be a lead in to the Borg. I'm not sure if I have that right or not, but I think so. Obviously this connection was dropped. Unfortunately, this is one of the few storylines TNG did that linked over more than a couple of episodes.

Yup, it was/is a great episode. However, there is one thing I disagree with you: Picard is not the best captain. He might be a good captain but not THE best. (Well, maybe he is but...I hate him. His ego and arrogance are killing me. I hate arrogance people. If you're smart, you don't need to shove that down everyone's throat, they just know.)

Picard is not arrogant. He's a professional. He knows his stuff and he expects that those under his command know their stuff too. Lives are on the line and he expects everyone to do their job. That's not arrogance, that's a good commander. If I'm the away team guy on the planet in a dangerous situation, I want my Captain to be smart as Hell, and expecting that everyone on that friggin' ship is going to be doing everything they can to get me home in one piece. Just do your job well, and no problems. Look at Sito Jaxa.
