I thought the Borg always came back to get Borg drones that were seperated from the collective like with Hugh??

Now we have:
1: The (semi-)Borg in 'Unity' that made their own collective.
2: The Borg from 'Descent'.
3: A bunch of Borg kids running their own ship.

Why do the Borg come back to retreive 4 lost drones or one single Borg (Seven of Nine) and not go back to get these 3 groups??

Well with Hugh - they were aboard a scout ship - presumably there was a mother ship somewhere in the vicinity.

Perhaps the Borg only retrieve their dead when it is convenient - that is, when there happens to be a Cube nearby with nothing better to do.

I for one am glad that things we thought we knew about the Borg are proven false. It would be absurd to think that the Feds would know anything worthwhile about the Borg after just a couple of brief encounters (and one apparently rather amnesia-stricken Locutus). After all, these are the only truly alien recurring lifeforms in Trek, apart from the Q. Let's let them *stay* alien for a while.

I have to agree Timo. I will never forgive Voyager for "Dark Frontier"'s destruction of the Borg timeline as recorded in TNG. When the Enterprise encountered the Borg for the first time in "Q Who", and then later when they attacked in BoBW, the whole point of the Borg was utter terror. If you are unfortunate enough to come across them, you die, or worse, are assimilated. They were a nightmare!

Now we find out that the Federation had known about them all along Worse that the Federation had been studying them!! This turned them into just another weird looking species for me. In fact, since most of those flashbacks were from Seven's fragmented childhood memory, I have just now chosen to believe that the flashbacks were mistaken

"Dark Frontier" only worked off the apparent destruction started with everything after "I, Borg" (Generations in partocular). It's no more "to blame" for compiling stuff that had been decided concerning the Borg since after "I, Borg". Generations never really jibed with "Q Who?" (Well, unless you prefer to believe the El-Aurians are almost as ruthless as the Borg in cocnealing the Borg's presence), so why does "Dark Frontier" get blamed...?

If the correct timeline is to be believed. Before the 2365 encounter in system J25 the Federation did not know if the Borg were "real". Lets face it anyone who meets them usually get assimilated ie the raven, tombaugh etc. Assuming by the mid 24th century there are rumours of the Borg since there are refugees and other gossip so they send someone to find and study them aka the Hansons. The Borg at the time were not interested in the Federation although they will later on.

If starfleet knew about the Borg do you believe that they will make this information public knowledge. I would not ie o by the way there is this really powerful race that have assimilated a lot of planets but i am not sure if they exist or not

It could be like the way starfleet met the ferengi ie a few skirmishs by both sides and then first contact

Hey, remember the Hansons to the Federation Science Council were Crackpots... they went off across the galaxy chasing rumours and phantom vessels... Who knows where the Hanson's originally got their info on the borg - probably traded it at some out of the way station...

Then the Hansons probably became obsessed with them - all the while - probably not doing anything correct in their scientific approach - i.e. submitting papers/reports/theories. The Science Council probably laughed at them and then let them go on their way - -never to be heard from or thought about again... I'm sure after J25 or even BOBW - there was some old scientist on Earth - going - "you know what? Those bloody Hansons or what ever their crackpot names were were right!"

I don't think anyone knew - it is basically the story of some crazy/obsessed scientists persuing something - unseen and unknown by anyone in a thousand light years in any direction - and dragging their innocent young child along with them.

When the Borg became interested in The Federation - it would have been when they saw a starship appear out of no where and a few hours later sustaining heavy damage - and again dissappearing... all this because of Q - it made out that the Federation had some transportation technology that the Borg had NEVER EVER had before - so... instant no. 1 priority for assimilation... and just a few years earlier (10 or so) They would have assimilated the Raven - probably a crappy ship for that time too - cause who would 'fund' the crazy Hanson mission - and found that the technological difference between the Raven and the Enterprise - D was phenomenal in such a small time frame.

The El-Alurian closed-mouth problem is annoying - but who knows what they were fleeing from too - it could be that they were on colony ships and were attacked - It could be that like most El-Aurians they are listeners not talkers - plus they are probably quite quite advanced - maybe not in weaponry to defeat the borg - but advanced in other ways - they probably looked apon the federation as children - or a young planet - and they probably have or had a prime directive of their own... telling the federation about the borg during the events of Generations - at the launch of the E-B etc. would have been like telling the aliens in "First Contact (the episode) that there were Romulans, Klingons, Naausicans, Ferengi, Borg... etc. - they'd probably run and hide under their beds!

Even if the El-Aurians were candid with humans and told them all they knew about the Borg (which might not have been all that much), Starfleet might simply have ignored the evidence as silly exaggeration of shell-shocked aliens.

After all, Starfleet must be getting new like this virtually every week: "Sir, sir, a giant space amoeba ate my ship!" "I tell ya, flying pancakes are going to take over Deneva if you don't stop them!" "Gentlemen of the Council: due to a transporter hiccup during my latest state visit to Berengaria, I managed to visit a parallel universe where I was the Emperor. I suggest opening diplomatic relations." "These Ferengi are *monsters*! Don't ever go to negotiation tables with them! They will eat you alive!"

The means of verifying the news are limited. A delay of a century or two might not be all that unusual for the Bureau of Potential Contacts, the Starfleet equivalent for the X-files.

I do like the idea that it was directly becasue of the demonstrations of Q's power in "Q Who" in front of a very surprised Borg cube, that the collective embarked on its quest to assimilate the Federation.

Hell, if they ever succeeded they'd probably complain "What, that's it? Where's the big-white-flash technology then?"

If Q had never sent the Enterprise to system J-25 then Starfleet would not have developed any new systems such as quantum torpedoes. By the time the Borg came starfleet would not have a chance.
