Have we ever knowingly seen someone from SI? We've certainly heard mention of them from time to time, but I can't recall ever seeing one of them, particularly in those black uniforms they're supposed to wear.

THey wear black uniforms? Where'd that come from?
Anyway, Admiral Pressman is from Starfleet Intelligence, as was the Admiral that sent him to the Enterprise in "The Pegasus" IIRC. Furthermore, we actually see an (undercover?) operative in "Honor Among Thieves" as the guy O'Brien reported to (and eventually knocked out).

Who says S31 is supposed to wear black uniforms? They could have been wearing those just to throw Bashir off. I doubt S31 would even have a standard uniform. They've opperated in secret since the birth of the Federation. The S31 opperatives are probably just officers in normal sections in Starfleet. One in Intell, one over in R&D, two or three in Fleet Ops, etc.
If they had standard uniforms, that would kinda make them a sanctioned division of UFP wouldn't it?

These darn pesky black uniforms... If you do a search for "Starfleet Uniforms" you'll come across n sites with FOUR trim colours: the red, gold and blue we all know and love and dark grey / black for the intel-weenies. I couldn't recall ever seeing one, so I wondered if they were totally made up.
And Shelby was part of a specialised anti-Borg ops group, not SI per se (though they probably had contact with SI since SI already knew the Borg existed).

Certainly not. And S31 sure won't have an official uniform, since it's such a clandestine organization.
It seems that Starfleet Intelligence was first mentioned in TNG "The Pegasus". The Encyclopedia is a bit confusing (-ed?) about the episode. There are four Admirals there: Pressman, Blackwell, Shanthi and Ranar. The first two wear standard Fleet red, the last two are not seen (but Shanthi in "Redemption" wore standard red).
Now, Pressman is clearly acting for SFI, but is he officially a member? I remember Blackwell to have been SFI, but the Encyclopedia doesn't confirm this. Ranar was SF Security, according to the Encyclopedia anyway - which is curious, since Ranar is the bad guy here, telling Riker to keep secrets and do naughty things, but apparently Ranar ISN'T from SFI. And Shanthi seems unrelated to either SFI or SFS, being more like a sector commander or some other such bigwig.
