No this isn't about consistency and canon.
I wondering if anyone knows if a continuity script archive for TOS (or TNG etal) has been established or if any continuity scripts have been done. A continuity script is a record of all the words spoken on screen (the script as written for filming is called the shooting script). It seems to me a lot of questions that we spend so much time debating coud be answered more quickly if such an archive existed.

Is that like a transcript?

Yeah, a continuity script is basically a transcript.

How would reading a transcript be any more helpful than listening to the line in the episode itself?

Faster reference. Easier to flip through a transcript than fast forward or rewind through an episode.

Actually, I'd be amazed if this has not been done, at least with the original series. There was 10+ years between TOS and ST:TMP with no new (live action) Trek of any kind. They had TV reruns but only sound recording and no VCRs. You'd think someone would've made transcripts.

As an example of how this would be useful, a transcript database could easily be searched to find a possible on-screen reference to Spock being the first Vulcan in Starfleet.

Hey, I found a transcript archive for TNG.
You can search from here: http://www.angelfire.com/scifi/capttrekker/

Or access each episode here: http://www.angelfire.com/scifi/capttrekker/tsttngetf/tsttngetf.htm

Hey, we could always make this some uber-project associated with Flare. Transcribe ALL dialogue of Trek. Any takers?

I'd be game. If every member did one or two episodes, it could easily be done. I have a few uncut, store-bought episodes of TOS on VHS (Enterprise Incident, Babel, Tribbles, Balance of Terror) that I'd be willing to work on (dibs on these eps).

Uhhh ... I don't think we have enough active members! And besides, why would we WANT to?

(But, if we do, I get "Arsenal of Freedom", "Conspiracy", "The Neutral Zone", "Heart of Glory", "Tin Man", "Defector" and "Coming of Age" )
