Hasn't anyone given a shred of thought to the fact that Omega's provided more accurate-sounding "sources" of info than this trash?

Yeah this is all the word of one of AICN's sources, and they have a hit or miss record with this kind of stuff, not to mention that tacked on comment about Shatner appearing as one of Kirk's ancestors is REALLY pushing it.
This could be as phony as that "Weapons Console" image on that German Site.

Speaking of which, why wasn't there more of an uproar about that? I mean, it more or less proves that that site, at least, is just pulling stuff from anywhere and everywhere and calling it "news."

Well, the fairly-close-to-final draft script doesn't contain anything of the sort, and I imagine that such an opening montage would be scripted.
I'd far rather see a montage in the opening credits than a one-off out-of-place bit.

Longevity, Timmy ma boogie.
Any usage of current music is evil im my opinion. Remember "Heavy Metal?" In the future, we were all supposed to be listenign to BOC & ELO. Then "Titan AE" tolds us the future was tracked by Corrosion Of Conformity & Powerman 5000.
No, let the show's film quality date itself, like all S1s since TNG.

While the Dido album "No Angel" has been out for two years, it only recently because a hit here when "Here With Me" and "Thank You" were released as singles to cash in on the interest which built after Eminem's "Stan" (featuring samples of "Thank You") went to Number One here. They are now seeking to capitalise on that success by releasing "Hunter" as a single. And I'm getting really bored with having to qualify every single statement I make in order for it to be Nixpick (sic) proof. . .

You know what.. based on this thread, I am sitting watching opening credits from each series, except i am dubing random mp3s over the music. Its really quite fun.
Speaking of pop music and Star Trek, there are a few fun versions of the themes out there. Has anyone heard Tenacious D singing Gene's lyrics to the TOS theme. Or Todd Rundgren and Utopia doing a tripped out pop-trancy TOs theme.. I wont mention the techno mixes, they are shite..

I actually only found out that Gene had intended lyrics for the TOS theme rather recently... where might one find them?

They are in the Inside Star Trek book by Justman and Solow. The lyrics are an odd point in Star Trek history.. Gene wrote them to con Sandy Courage out of half his royalties. Alexander Courage wrote the TOS theme, and Gene took it and added the lyrics. This way, Gene is listed as co-author and recieved half the royalties every time the theme was played. This is also why Courage never returned to Star Trek and they arent allowed to use his music in new productions (it would have been nice in Trials and Tribbleations)
They were written on the fly, and show it. By Courage (an other musicians) point of view they are unsound, having s sounds at the end of lyrics and adding extra beats (which is painfully apparent if you ever hear a band sing it)
I dont have the sheets in front of me, but i remember *mostly* how they go
Beyond the rim of the star light My love is wand'rin' in starflight I know he'll find in star-cluster'd reaches Love strange love a star-woman teaches I know his journey ends never His star trek will go on forever Just let him know as he wanders his starry sea Remember Remember me...
