The Starship Schematics Databse at shipschematics.net features this vessel in its list of official designs. I've never seen it anywhere but on that site, and it obviously must be a mistake, but does anyone know where it came from?

Cyrano Jones' ship from TAS' "More Tribbles, More Troubles." It IS why he has a bibliography.

I can't blame you for not recognizing it, though. This picture looks nothing like the real thing. Cyrano Jones' little ship actually had warp nacelles, bolted to the upper stern, and a nice golden deflector dish at the extreme bow. See here for a far better take on the vessel.

Goodness gracious, talk about being far off base.

The misidentication of that ship results from a misreading of the first edition of Bjo Trimble's Condordance. The entry for "scout ship" describes Cyrano Jones's ship from "More Tribbles" and an Enterprise scout ship stolen by Harry Mudd in "Mudd's Passion." The entry is followed by a picture of the round ship but not one of Jones's ship.

By the way, the schematic Timo posted is also way off. That's actually a three-quarters view that 'sbeen forced into serving as a profile view. I drew a better side view for MMOM. Maybe he'll post it?

PS: At least I think that's the explanation for the misidentification. I haven't seen Mudd's Passion since it first aired, and I couldn't find a picture of the round ship at any of the two TAS sites. But it does appear in the first edition of the concordance.

I'd love to see the accuratized version of Cyrano's ship. The stern part of the ship always seemed unsatisfactory to me, and the nacelle mountings look really odd in Curt's pic. Then again, the original artwork doesn't seem to be of high 3D quality - the various shuttles and especially the Huron looked much more consistent when seen from multiple angles.

By Mudd's "scoutship", would you happen to mean this one? Plot-wise, it fits what you are describing, although I don't remember the episode well and there could have been other ships operated by Mudd, too (perhaps in the teaser?). Again, there's little or no similarity to the rounded ship drawing, and Curt's side view looks pretty accurate (as long as you don't mistake the large black area for a window - as the screencaps show, that area is actually hull-colored).

The "Mudd shuttle" is a pleasing design, superior to the boxy Copernicus from "Slaver Weapon". The only problem is with the scale - this appears to be a two-deck design, yet looks just as small as the standard shuttles while sitting inside the hangar. Oops, it seems the strange bow surface feature is indeed black in this picture. Is it a variable-opaquity window?

Might that be Winston Carter's ship from "The Survivor" there, closest to the hangar doors to the right? The nacelle placement looks acceptably similar.

I'm at school right now, but when I get home later I'll post the side view you did, Masao.

Well, it's waaay off from the shuttle that Mudd stole, too. It must have been just one of those "artist's impression" sketches like the Antares. That's part of the reason why I get annoyed with the Concordance. Since it is completely unofficial and unauthorized, there's often stuff in there that's not very true to what was actually in the eps.

Okay, here's Masao's side view. You'll have to cut & paste the link.

PS,

BTW, Masao, how's it coming along with those Cargo Drone views you were drawing?

Haven't finished them yet. Haven't had much time for play recently, I'm sorry to say.

BTW, when I click on the link, I just get to an error page. Simply pasting in "cyranoside.jpg" isn't very fruitful either.

Right-click on it and select "copy shortcut" & paste that into the address bar.

But I'll change the displayed text so you can just highlight it and copy, too.

Sorry 'bout that.

Masao and MIM, I haven't thanked you for the picture yet.

Well, um, now I have. [Smile]

That's definitely more like it. The nacelles seem awfully slim, but I guess that's how they are supposed to be. Not a beauty contest winner, but an acceptable TOS design anyway...
