Possible Nemesis spoilers ahead. Yo' bin warned.
I've been thinking abou thte shuttle shape of that jeep. Obviously, this is to imply a connection to the shuttle design motif. But is there a practical reason for it?
Then it hit me - there's this scene where the Argo jeep jumps off a cliff and dives into the back of the shuttle. I haven't read the script, so it occured to me: what if the jeep is ALSO the cockpit module for the shuttle? The jeep could slide all the way forward into the front, lock into the shape of the shuttle, and off they go!
Like I said, I haven't read the script, but as movie mechanics go they probably wouldn't leave a pilot in the shuttle to wait for them to come back after the jeep exits. Even if the shuttle has its own cockpit and is operated by remote control, it's a fun concept, no?
...Until you remember that the jeep itself doesn't have much in the way of yer standard Okudagram controls. How is Picard going to fly the shuttle - with a steering wheel and a gas pedal? Will the shuttle controls descend from the ceiling like an overgrown periscope? Will a joystick emerge from a hole in the jeep floor?
It does explain why there's no windshield or anything useful atop the hood of the jeep, though. The crew probably move from the shuttle cabin to the jeep cabin by walking on the hood...
Ohh, how I do hate Eaves! (all his alien ships are way cool, though)
